Hi Guys,

It looks like you're off to a great start! In my opinion, Plee has the potential to become one of the best open source games around from what I've seen so far. As an artist who has worked on other well known 2d platform games I would love to help out. I've got two concerns though:

1. Copyright - You won't find Secret Maryo Chronicles in some of the major distributions like Fedora. Why? Mainly because the some of the graphics in RedHat's opinion breach copyright of one company (Nintendo). The level transition scenes you have in your plan would breach copyright of around 10 different companies openly. Contributors like me are wary of spending time on projects that break copyright law. It just gives open source a bad name, and risks our contributions.

2. Degrading other people's religion - I'm the first to say that I'm not Christian, or anything like that. I don't feel comfortable with the image it would create for Open Source though, having a game where God rips wings of angels until you kill him and walk away rubbing your hands in glee. Come on. That's not going to encourage more people to play/contribute. At least change the name from "God" to something else. Better yet make it "a (generic) god" rather than "The God", or come up with a new idea altogether. The rest of this wiki is filled with great ideas, so I know you can do it. :)

Other than that, you've done a stunning job with the graphics and the game engine is looking nice. I love that you're just beginning and you've already got 2 player action and sloping ground working. Excellent! The "Power Jump" is a nice touch, too. Anyway, let me know what your thoughts are regarding the points above, as I'd love to contribute artwork and help make Plee one of the most talked about open source games around.

Thank you for the feedback. Here are some answers:

1. I think you're right for the copyright. Nevertheless, we would like to do refer to those characters in the game, just to say that Plee exists because of them. We thought about replacing the transition with pictures of Plee disguised like those characters, hoping it won't break any copyright. In the other hand, contrary to Secret Maryo Chronicles, the references to other games do not make the game; so we will always be able to remove them for some distributions if needed.

2. We would like to not remove God from the game. The reason is that we do not care, just like we do not care that Plee runs after his son to slap him. Nevertheless, the word "god" will probably not appear when playing; so, everyone will be able to interpret the characters as they want, God, Devil or anything else. If the word finally appears, feel free to release a censored version of the game.
